FORGET about annoying ringtones that ping, now Australians can tell their smartphone to release a selected pong as a notification.
The Japanese company ChatPerf has announced it is shipping its smartphone aroma add-on Scentee to the world. It combines a hi-tech perfume puffer with a choice of five aromas: rose, strawberry, coffee, lavender and rosemary.
The rechargeable stink squirter plugs into the headphone port on your phone and is loaded with your choice of aroma. The system then uses an app, either iOS or Android, to produce a squirt of faux freshness as a notification.
If you’re a romantic, you could go for the almost fresh smell of roses whenever your loved one sends you a message.
If you’re not a morning person, you could see if the smell of coffee might help you crawl out of bed in the morning.
And if you’re craving lamb in the wake of Australia Day, you could opt with rosemary with just about anything.
Each cartridge cost $5 and has enough for 100 squirts of odour.
The site says more aromas are coming soon, and has pictures of coconut and jasmine perfumes.
The system has been on sale in Japan for a few months but over the weekend the company announced it would sell its products to 120 countries, including Australia, directly online.
ChatPerf is marketing the Scentee with an online video that shows how a lovesick woman finds happiness when her iPhone squirts at her showing that the man of her dreams really cares.
